A new interactive map designed for the investigation of residential property values is now available on the GSBOR web site. The Greene County Residential Property Value Map is a tool for rapidly assessing residential property values with appraised values from the Greene County Assessor’s Office. The map provides custom tools and data displays for quick and comprehensive assessment of properties with respect to their surrounding neighborhood.
The map features a color coded property value layer with six property value ranges. The color ranges are based on observed breaks in residential property values for Greene County.

A floating legend may be opened to compare the residential value ranges against the colors shown on the map.
The map also includes a land use classification layer with its associated floating legend and it features the State of Missouri’s new color aerial photography.
The map interface includes layer buttons to control the visibility of the map layers. If more than one layer is on, the transparency of the overlying layer may be adjusted with a sliding transparency control. As shown below, the slider control allows the property value layer to be viewed with variable transparency over the map’s aerial photography.

The image on the right shows the property value layer with 50% transparency over the air photo layer. The semi-transparent view allows the aerial photography to provide additional information for the interpretation of property values.
The map utilizes newly developed data transfer and display methods that allow unlimited data points to be displayed on the map. The new technology allows each parcel to contain an associated point with a mouseover hover display. The hover display feature allows property values and owner names to be displayed on the map when the cursor is moved over hover the point locations. The hover data is displayed at the bottom two zoom levels, and the hover points are included on the property value layer at these levels. Hover points may also be displayed against any layer by turning on point graphics for the hover point locations. The hover point graphics are color coded to match the color ranges shown on the property value layer.

The hover point locations are provided on the property value layer for fast display since the hover point graphics can be slow in Internet Explorer. Firefox provides greater performance for the hover point display technique and is recommended for using this map.
The images on the right show various ways the hover data may be displayed.
The top image shows the hover point graphics turned on over the land use layer with the cursor over a green hover point. The middle image shows the property value layer which includes hover point locations in the layer’s map tiles. The bottom image shows the hover data display over the air photo without the hover point graphics. The image reveals that the green color classified parcel is an undeveloped lot surrounded by new high value homes.
The residential property value map also contains the basic parcel selection features provided on the Greene County Property Parcel Map. At the bottom three zoom levels, parcels may be selected from the map or the sidebar list to display summary information. The complete assessor’s data may be accessed by clicking the property data link under the summary info.
